![]() | Teej is a festival of swings and marks the beginning of monsoons. The cool rain saturates the otherwise scorched land and women, usually clad in green dresses, sing songs welcoming this pleasant change. The scent of blooming flowers fills the atmosphere which itself seems filled with merriment. ‘Teej’ is a red insect which comes out of soil during monsoons, and hence the name. On this day married women are gifted with bangles, bindi, new sarees, and other such gifts which are a symbol of marriage. In other places young girls are given more preference and are showered with blessings and presents. Teej is a festival that reminds people of the essence of marriage and the importance of women and is a very well-celebrated festival of India. |
